Qai and his handler received Police K-9 Basic Certification on May 25, 2001.  Re-certification is annual and training to maintain the team's proficiency is an ongoing process.

Qai and his handler are members of the following professional organizations:

* Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handlers Association
* North American Police Work Dog Association
* Dogs Against Drugs - Dogs Against Crime (DADDAC)
